I am experienced in state government. Last legislative session, I was proud to have voted for a balanced budget for Montana, and an ample reserve. Montana is now weathering the national recession better than most states. I chaired the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services and served on the Appropriations (budgeting) Committee. I have a good working knowledge of the legislative process and the state budget. For the last 6 years I have worked hard to meet the needs of Montanans like you and still be fiscally responsible. Declining state revenue and the economy will be the primary focus of the next session.
I have also served on Health and Human Services, Local Government, State Administration and Agriculture Committees and the interim Children, Families, Health and Human Services Committee. As a member of the Missoula Democrat Party Legislative Delegation, I am up-to-date on the issues confronting our great state and “ready-to-go” in representing your interests in the MT Senate.
I am experienced in health care. As federal health care reforms come to the state I am prepared and have the expertise to ensure that these changes are implemented wisely at the state level. As a Registered Nurse, I have worked in hospital Intensive Care Units, as an Occupation Health Nurse Practitioner in both the private and public sectors, and was the Manager of Health Services for a large main frame computer company. Today, I teach Nursing. State government will definitely have an active, critical part to play in health care reform.
I have experience in education. I have taught nursing at Montana State University College of Nursing, Missoula Campus for almost 20 years. I supervise students at both Missoula hospitals and at health care facilities throughout Missoula County. As an educator, I am proud to help prepare students for good-paying jobs available right here in Montana, jobs of the future.
I am active in the community on a wide-level through MT Women Vote, the Missoula Art Museum, Missoula First United Methodist Church and other community organizations. I have worked at Planned Parenthood MT as a nurse practitioner. I have served on the board of directors for the Blue Mountain Clinic, MT Nurses Association (President), Western Mountains District of United Methodist Women (Vice President), MT Women’s Lobby (Chair), and NARAL Pro-Choice MT.
With your support, I promise you the best representation in Helena at the next legislative session. I will continue to support healthy communities, quality education, and a balanced budget. I would be honored to have your vote in the June 8 Primary. - Teresa K. Henry
